On Thursday, a delegation comprising members of multiple political groups from Manipur had a discussion about the circumstances in Manipur with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the city of Guwahati, even as there were reports of recent violence in Manipur.
The delegation, headed by Assembly Speaker T. Satyabrata Singh and with representatives from the BJP, NPF, and NPP, has been assured by Home Minister Amit Shah of his imminent visit to Manipur and the swift restoration of peace in the state.
Manipur Cabinet Minister, Leishangthem Susindro Meitei stated while talking to media, “The main discussion was to bring back peace in Manipur. The Union Home Minister has stated that he will visit Manipur from May 29 to June 1.”
On Wednesday, Amit Shah visited Guwahati for two prestigious occasions: distributing a total of 44,703 appointment letters from the state government, and laying the foundation stone of the National Forensic Sciences University at Changsari. This will be the ninth university of its kind in India.
During the speech addressing the public, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the Manipur violence and mentioned, “We should maintain peace and law and order. I assure both groups that justice will be done for everyone. Culprits will not be spared. We will solve the issue amicably. I am going to Manipur to talk to everyone.”
“I appeal to them to speak to the Manipur government and the central government, and the only way to create a peaceful atmosphere is through dialogue,” added Amit Shah.
Despite reports of violence from Bishnupur, west Imphal, and East Imphal, the circumstances in Manipur remain tense. Allowing for normalcy to return, the curfew has been rescinded while the internet still remains restricted.
